Pricing & Platform FAQs

Clear answers to common questions about Standby pricing, staffing, and team management tools.

How does Standby pricing work?

Standby has two parts:

  • Staffing (on-demand or dedicated) is priced as a flat service cost added to worker wages.
  • Team management tools are offered as a monthly subscription for scheduling, time tracking, tip pools, and reporting.

You can use either on its own or together.

What does the staffing service cost include?

The service cost includes:

  • Employer payroll contributions
  • Workers’ compensation insurance
  • Standby’s platform fee

There are no posting fees, no finder fees, and no long-term contracts.

What’s the difference between On-Demand and Dedicated staffing?

On-Demand is designed for last-minute call-outs, events, and busy shifts.

Dedicated is for restaurants that commit to 30+ hours per week with the same Standby Pro and receive a lower total service cost.

Is Standby the employer of record for staffing?

Yes. Standby is the W-2 employer of record for all Standby Pros.

We handle payroll, taxes, and workers’ comp so you don’t take on additional employment risk.

Can I use the team management tools without staffing?

Yes. You can definitely use Standby’s team management tools on their own without using staffing.

That means you can run scheduling, time tracking, tip pools, and exports while continuing to staff internally.

Does Standby run payroll?

Payroll is available as an optional add-on for select plans.

If you don’t use Standby Payroll, you can export timesheets and tip data to your existing payroll provider.

How does tip pool management work?

Standby lets you define which roles participate in tip pools and automatically calculate distributions based on rules you set.

Tip data can be exported for payroll and reporting.

Does Standby calculate overtime?

Standby provides overtime projections and alerts, but it does not make final payroll or legal determinations.

This helps managers spot overtime risk early while keeping payroll decisions flexible.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. All team management subscriptions include a free trial so you can test scheduling, time tracking, and reporting before committing.

Can I change plans or cancel?

Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time. There are no long-term contracts.
